GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition – Game Details

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition is Rockstar Games’ take on a modern, up-to-date version of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas. The initial trio released as a bundle together on 17th October, 2005 and was available on the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC platforms. The Definitive Edition, which was officially announced via Rockstar Games’ Newswire on 8th October, 2021 features all 3 games which have been enhanced with ‘across the board graphical upgrades’ as well as new lighting effects and controls which are based on Grand Theft Auto V’s mechanics. Very little information is currently known about Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, however Rockstar Games have assured their fans that more will be revealed over the coming weeks. It is unknown what extend the upgrades are and whether this will be designed as more a ‘remaster’ than a ‘remake’, however it appears Rockstar Games have done this to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III which released back in October 2001.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition is split into 3 individual games and take place in a variety of different fictional cities which are well known throughout the GTA Series. Grand Theft Auto III takes place in Liberty City which is based on New York City; Grand Theft Auto: Vice City which is set in, well, Vice City. This is based on the real-life Miami and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas which is split between Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas, being the real-life Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

Some newer players of the Grand Theft Auto franchise who may not have played these classic games may be more familiar with the more recent versions of Liberty City (from GTA IV) and San Andreas (from GTA V). It is unknown on what the setting of the three titles looks like in the enhanced versions as there has been no footage released, however you can read more below about the specific settings about each title by clicking the icons below.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition features Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Each game is set in what originally was known as the ‘3D GTA Universe’, which means the stories are linked together in some form, although each title is set during different decades. GTA III is set during the year 2001, GTA: Vice City is set during 1986 and GTA: San Andreas is set during the year 1992. Some characters in each title appear in the other but only a handful.

It is currently unknown if there are any alterations made to the stories from each game in The Definitive Edition, however it is unlikely. If there are any changes, we highly doubt they will be of a major nature which would completely change the storyline. Therefore as they remain the same, you can read more about each storyline by clicking the relevant links below.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition features all of the same characters which featured in the original titles. Each character plays a unique part in each of the stories and even featured across more than one title. For example, Claude Speed who is the main protagonist of Grand Theft Auto III makes an appearance in GTA: San Andreas which was set prior to GTAIII. Each of the games are set in the same universe and therefore all the characters exist amongst one another. Click the relevant links below to find out more about the main characters of each game.

All of the weapons from the original titles feature in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. There has been a massive graphical overhaul on the visuals that some weapons cause such as rockets and grenades. This has added an increased depth of realism to the classic titles and look stunning in the 4K, 60FPS which it delivers. To find out more information on the weapons available in each of the games you can click the relevant links below.
